Sterrehof’s Tamino

‘An extraordinary talent,’ that’s what Marc Houtzager called Sterrehof’s Tamino, born in 2000. He was only ten years old when he won the Outdoor Gelderland Grand Prix as well as the Dublin Nations Cup and scored the best Dutch result at the Kentucky World Equestrian Games. Sterrehof Stud then made the effort to preserve this top horse for Marc and for Dutch showjumping.

Tamino turned out to be a lot more fragile than Opium. In 2012, after a long period of recuperation, Tamino and Marc managed to qualify for the London Olympic Games in the nick of time. Once again Tamino showed his worth. He won the CHIO Rotterdam Grand Prix and excelled at the Olympic Games. His clear rounds in the Nations Cup secured the Dutch team silver medal and put him in ninth place individually. And he completed 2012 in style, winning the Paris Gucci Masters Grand Prix as well as the London Olympia World Cup Qualifier. He kept a steady course in 2013, finishing seventh in the World Cup Finals and winning the Aachen Nations Cup, but was then forced to retreat from the scene due to a new injury. Tamino re-entered the stage, but in 2015 we decided to grant this wonderful sport horse his pension, which would last until he passed away in 2022.
