Frozen semen of Sterrehof's Cayetano Z will be used for our breeding program
For the first time we have used Sterrehof’s Cayetano Z as a breeding stallion and collected his semen. During the breeding season a couple of our breeding mares will be covered by this top horse of Julia Houtzager-Kayser. It was special to observe how a fourteen year old stallion mounted the phantom mare for the first time in his life. In the beginning Cayetano didn’t seem to notice which job had to be done. But after some help of a Friesian mare the intelligent Grand Prix performer figured it out 😊. Now we have stored a total of 100 straws with frozen semen of Cayetano Z to use for our own breeding program this season. The plan is to cover three interesting mares: Sterrehof’s Ushi, who performed also at 1.60m level and Sterrehof’s Centolina and Sterrehof’s Felisimo, both classified at 1.40m level.
Ratina Z
For sure we can say Cayetano is genetically a very interesting stallion. This beautiful brown boy is bred by Mexican Alfonso Romo and approved at Studbook Zangersheide. His fantastic character, scope and technique brought him already towards several high placings in big Grands Prix and last season also towards the European Championship in Gothenburg, Sweden. And what about his bloodline? Father Caretano Z has proven himself as a breeder of performance horses and the offspring of mother Calipa Z contains several international showjumpers, including a couple of Grand Prix horses. Cayetano’s grandmother Ratina Z even makes him more exclusive. This legendary mare belongs to the best showjumpers of the 20th century and has also proven to be an excellent breeding mare.
For commercial use we still have that other top stallion at stud: Sterrehof’s Opium. More information about this former Olympian can be found here.
