The latest news from Sterrehof stud
Three foster mares in foal by the combination Sterrehof’s Ushi and a son of Cornet Obolensky
A total of three foals from Sterrehof’s Ushi are expected in 2023. A same number of foster mares is in foal with an embryo by our Grand Prix mare, combined with a well-known Grand Prix stallion. Two times the combination Ushi x Balou du Reventon has been made. This son of Cornet Obolensky who is out of the dam of the progenitor Balou du Rouet, finished among others second in the Grand Prix of Aachen. The other embryo has Comme Il Faut as a sire, perhaps the most famous son of Cornet Obolensky. Comme Il Faut had a wonderful sports career with Marcus Ehning and of course has the legendary Ratina Z as a dam, who we know all too well as the granddam of our own Sterrehof’s Cayetano.
Earlier we saw at several auctions, including one this year, that Ushi’s offspring seems to be very sought-after. This isn’t very strange. Sterrehof’s Ushi herself jumped successfully at 1.60m Grand Prix level with Julia Houtzager-Kayser for several years, and the daughter of world champion Vigo d’Arsouilles has been bred out of the world-famous Belgian dam line of Narcotique de Muze II and Qerly Chin. Ushi’s dam is a half-sister to five 1.60m horses and five approved stallions, all directly bred out of Narcotique de Muze II (1.60m).
Ushi has already shown to be a great broodmare herself. Her first offspring Goliath S jumps at international 1.45m level and at Sterrehof Stud we have several, mostly still young offspring of her, like Orion S and Chapeau S Z. We also have a lot of expectations of the very talented Mercurius S, bred out of Henna S, a daughter of Sterrehof’s Opium and Sterrehof’s Ushi.
